Trouble in Tone-Bonia
It all began on a summer afternoon when I was walking by Lake and I tripped over something. I looked to see what it was. It was a small device. I was about to pick it up. When suddenly someone jumped out from behind some trees and yelled, “Don’t touch that!”
I was so startled I almost jumped out of my skin. “Sorry I startled you.” he said. “It is just that it is really special and I don’t know what it is.”
“Well I know what it is.” I said, “It is a Tone-Bonian transportation device that can take you to Tone-bonia.”
“What is Tone-Bonia?” he asked, “Just to tell you my name is Theodore, call me Ted. What is yours?”
“My name is Gavin.” I said. “I don’t know what Tone-Bonia is but we could go there and see.”
“OK, then let’s go tomorrow.” said Ted, “See you later alligator.”
“In a while crocodile.” I said back. After that I decided that I would not tell my mom and dad about this I was a nervous wreck all night because I did not know what was going to happen.
The next morning I went to the lake and gave him the signal of all is clear. When he got out he said, “Who is going to press the button.”
“You can.” I said, “No, you can.” said Ted. “O.K. O.K., I will press the button. Here it goes.” I said.
HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUM
“Here we gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!”
“Wow this is dull.” said Ted.
“Yes it is, it is very dull.” I said, “Well let’s explore.”
“OK.” said Ted. We went through a lot of rooms then when we were turning a corner there was a fork in the road.
I choose left we went down the road and took another left and took a right and there were 333 skeletons right in our path marching straight for us.
I turned around and started running and went right then right and then left down there other road and while we were running around a corner someone pulled us in a door.
He said, “I think, you should come here with us.” We waited in tell the thunder like noise was gone then we walked out and went to the place that they were staying at.
Once we got there I asked, “What is your name.”
“My name is Leafeye and here is my friend Josh, he is shy.” said Leafeye.
“Why is your name Leafeye?” I said.
“It’s a long story but if you want to hear it, here it goes. When I was a little kid my name was James. I liked to play swords. My friend and I were playing swords when a few robbers came and tried to get us. I slashed my play sword at him but he caught it and slashed at my eye and my eyeball was bleeding and there was all this blood and I got really mad and I pulled out a real sword from his sheath and I killed him. Then I went to a tree and pulled a leaf off and put it on my eye. That is how I got my name.”
“Wow! Do you want to explore with us? We have a transportation device that Tommy got for a birthday present.” I said. “No, this place is prowling with skeletons.” said Leafeye.
“Now that you mention that, we can all go back together.” I said, “I’ll get it.”
Then I felt a hole in my pants. “Oops.” I said. “I think I might have dropped it when we were walking.”
“This is very, very bad, I assume Lord Bones has it by now.” said Leafeye.
“Then I guess we will have to go and get it.” I said trying to think of how we were going to do it.
Then a skeleton jumped out and captured us and knocked us out.
When we woke up we were tied up and in a dungeon. Leafeye said, “We need to untie these ropes.”
It was very easy because skeletons do not tie knots very well. Then after we got the knots untied we searched the walls for a secret passageway. Then Josh said, “I found it.”
Right beside him was a little tunnel that led outside of the dungeon. Josh crawled through first, then Leafeye, then Tommy, then finally me.
When I got out I saw skeletons all around us.
We were caught. We were put in another dungeon and this time with no secret passageways out. We thought and thought until I had an idea.
We could reach that stick that was right there in the dungeon out and pull the keys of one of guard’s belt. We put our plan into action I reached for the stick and then…. Crash! The stick fell to the ground and the guards herd it.
The guards took the stick, and left us in there until our execution.
We had to make a plan, and fast. Our execution was one day away, and then I had it. I told Tommy and Leafeye and Josh. They thought it was a good idea.
Finally the day of our execution came if this did not work we would be DEAD with capital letters.
So when they were untying our ropes to bring us to the burner, we yelled as loud as we could and, we jumped out and knocked our heads with the guards and grabbed their swords.
We fought and fought our way out. Just to tell you I was not a very good fighter. I got a bloody nose.
When we got back to the camp, we talked about trying to get out. Josh was not a very good talker so we said he did not have to make plans with us.
We were taking a long time so we said that Josh could walk around where we could see him.
After we were done, Leafeye said, “Where is Josh?” “I don’t know; now let’s get back to the plan.” I mumbled.
“No, really he’s gone.” Leafeye said in a scared voice.
“We need to send a search party.” I said more alert.
“We only have three people, so how about one person goes— someone that is very skilled.” said Tommy.
There was a long pause. Then I said, “I will go.”
“If you want to go you can, here is a sword I stole from a skeleton. I think you will need it.” said Leafeye.
I set out through the corridors and passageways. When finally, I got to the center part Tone-bonia. I saw three skeletons taking Josh to the elevator.
Oh no! I thought I needed to get into that elevator. I sprinted to the elevator, right when the elevator door was about to shut, I slipped in. I was glad I had my sword. I also found out in there that I was actually a good fighter. I fought and fought the skeletons but no one killed each other.
When we were at the level that we wanted to go to, I knew what it was. The evil lair. I saw Lord Bones. It was four on one also over a bubbling vat of lava.
My sword was a blur; I slashed at one skeleton dead. I sliced at another, dead. I did the same with all the others. I had killed everyone—but Lord Bones.
He had no one help him. We fought and fought in tell he cornered me in the elevator. I didn’t know what to do. I closed the elevator door.
Thankfully Josh was already in there, he was crying. I said, “It’s O.K. Lord Bones is down there in his evil lair.”
“It is not that, it is that I had a chance to get the transportation device, but I was too scared.” He said crying even harder.
“It’s O.K.” I said looking up. Diiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing. “We’re here.” I said “Let’s go back and make a plan. O.K.?”
“O.K.” he said.
I picked up the swords of the skeletons I killed. We dodged skeletons and sneaked through passageways until we finally made it to our secret base.
When we got there everyone was surprised, even us. While we were gone they had gone out to find other people who were stranded in Tone-bonia just like us. They had found six.
I told them that we got three swords from the skeletons that had captured Josh. I decided to not tell them about Josh and our short talk in the elevator.
“So what are their names?” I asked.
“There is Bob, Fred, Billy, Joe, Sam, and Sean.” Leafeye said.
“O.K., now stop all the names, and let’s get down to business.” said Tommy.
“Let’s make a plan.” said Josh for a change.
“There is no way of killing Lord Bones,” said Leafeye.
“Then what will we do,” said Tommy.
“Well, there is one way,” Answered Josh.
“What is that way?” I asked.
“Up,” Leafeye said.
“Up!?” I said questionably.
“Yes, up,” Josh said.
“O.K. let’s go.” I said.
We went toward the entrance and saw enemy soldiers; they had shoulder plates with spikes on them, their shoes covered with thorns. “How will we get past?” I asked.
“Fight!” Leafeye yelled running with his sword unsheathed.
“Wait, Leafeye!” I yelled, but it was too late to stop him.
“He can’t do it all by himself,” yelled Sam, “We got to help him. Arrrrrrrrg!”
We started to fight. Cling, Ahhhh, Clash, Ahhhh. I was bleeding, I ran through the door and out into open air. I waited a few minutes for the others to come out and find out if we lost anyone.
After a few minutes they came out and we did a check of all the people. All we had was a few bloody noses, three scraped legs, and about fifty cuts.
“So what is this ‘up’ that can defeat Lord Bones?” I asked.
Leafeye took a map out of his pocket and shows it to us.
“Wow! That is so cool, is that a map of this world?” I asked.
“Yes, it is, but look at it in the light.” He said in an excited voice.
“See, See, it is so cool, read that if you go to those places you will find the five parts to the crystal armor to help you defeat Lord Bones!” Leafeye yelled.
“Wow, let’s go!” I yelled.
We started down the Sacrumus Road to get to our first destination, The Heltore Forest.
After a few hours of walking we sat down for a rest under a tree. “Wow that was tremendously hard.” Fred believed.
“You can say that again.” Billy sighed.
“Wow that was tremendously hard.” Fred repeated.
“I didn’t literally mean say that again.” Billy said while starting to stand up.
“Oh yeah!” Fred yelled about to punch Billy.
“Stop, Stop, Stop! We are not trying to kill each other we are trying to kill Lord Bones!” I said while jumping in to the fight. “Who started it?”
“He did!” They both yelled as pointing to each other.
“Whatever, forget that, and stop!” I yell.
“O.K.” They said while bowing their heads.
Then we sit down for a rest again.
After thirty minutes, we got up and started walking, when we saw a sign and it said…
(Unable to activate)
“What does that mean?” I asked.
“I don’t know, it might be in the Tone-Bonian language.” Leafeye answered confused.
We went on not knowing what was on the sign.
Then my feet started sinking into the ground and I said, “I think that sign said ‘quicksand.’”
I saw everyone except Leafeye sinking into the quicksand. “Why are you not sinking, Leafeye?” I screamed.
“I don’t know! Wait, I think I am standing on rock. Everyone step onto a rock and try to get to the other side.” Leafeye said trying not to panic.
We all swam our way to the nearest rock and after a long time we were all on the other side. Then Sam sighed, “Next time we see a sign let’s keep our eyes open.”
We all agreed, and went to sleep.
The next morning I woke up thinking I was at home, thinking a frog was an alarm clock, I slapped it down moaning, “Five more minutes, Mom.”
Then finally I dragged myself out from under my blanket and remembered that I was in Tone-bonia and I was sleeping under a tree.
“Man I wish I was home sleeping in my warm cozy bed with the A.C. on and the lava lamp glowing in the dark, instead of hear under a tree with a small blanket and nothing but the ground under me.” I complained.
“Stop complaining and get your butt off the ground!” Leafeye yelled as he jumped up, “Everyone up, it’s morning, everyone has got to get moving. Let’s go, go, go!”
We slumped out from under our blanket, and started to walk to our destination.
A few days pasted beginning always the same, Leafeye yells at us, and then we slump out of bed, and start to trudge on.
While we were walking Leafeye was deciphering the Tone-Bonian language. After a little while, he came to a conclusion that the Tone-Bonian language was similar to English but all the letters were one letter before the normal placing of the letter. So the sign read…
(Unable to activate)
We walked on knowing that if we saw any sign that we would be able to read it.
We finally reached the stopping place of our walking, the river. We all jumped up and down so happy that we did not have to walk the rest of the journey.
Cutting down trees we started to make a big long canoe to sail to our targeted place. After a few short hours we had finished our canoe. “Man that was tiring.” Sam moaned.
I lectured him about that on earth that some people do a lot harder work than what we just did. We hopped into our boat and started to row.
After a little while Leafeye got out of the boat and swam over to the side where a sign was put up. He read the sign and slowly swam back to the boat.
“It says ‘turn back, not safe, and death zone.’” Leafeye remarked.
We decided that it was more important to retrieve the transportation device then to listen to some old skeleton.
We started to go into the Heltore Forest when darkness fell over the boat. I thought, “I won’t be seeing light for a long, long time.”
“Turn back;” We heard a gloomy voice from the woods, “it is not safe.”
“That guy is scaring me.” I inquired.
“Well do not worry about him, just ignore him.” Leafeye answered.
Just then an old man with a winding beard jumped out from behind a tree yelling, “Who has strolled into the territory of I, Stalmore, wizard of Heltore, son of Talmore.”
“That has got to be hard to remember.” I whispered to Josh.
“What did you say, my name is very long? Curse you!!” Stalmore screamed, “I shall fight, a fight that will be known across the land of Tone-Bonia.”
“Against who?” I asked puzzled
“Against you.” He answered firmly while grabbing a wand from his robe, “Jelsolmon, Telumhco, Sapiltand, Groselmorto, Kezexneblo, zam!!!!!!”
A large round ball, glowing green was streaking towards me. Barely having time to duck, I jumped out of the boat, just missing the magic ball.
Leafeye took care of the rest, he threw his sword at the wand, and it missed. Luckily it sliced through the evil wizard head, leaving blood splattered all over the ground. Body disappearing in thin air.
“Nice shot!” Josh inquired.
I climbed back into the boat and congratulated Leafeye with all the others. After all of the excitement was over, we got back into our seats and started to row again.
After a little while we entered a two way cut in the river, we inquired that if we went left we would be moving towards our unknown destination, and right would take us to Heltore Lake. We definitely chose left because we were not trying to go to Lake Heltore.
After a few minutes we reached a roundish shaped tall hedge of thorns. There was no way in, but a small hole in the bottom of the hedge.
Also we saw all around it logs, giant logs. We started to think that skeletons could actually be loggers. Just then a giant crocodile sort thing jumped out of the water at me. It looked like a giant crocodile with teeth as long as daggers and spikes along his back. I was so frighten I froze with fear.
Right before I was about to be eaten Leafeye slammed his sword down his throat. We killed all the others stabbing their backs and stealing their teeth and spikes. We used them as extra daggers.
Back to the hedge of bushes, right beside it we saw a sign that translated…
(Unable to activate)
We inferred that the Monowers were those crocodiles. But why did the sign say it singular instead of plural? We did not know, so we carried on to the new business.
The only person that could get in was Josh the only boy small enough to fit.
I let Josh borrow my sword and we all lent two small daggers from our secret stash. He was ready to go.
He slowly army crawled while trying to keep his head down so that he would not scrap his head. I do not know what happened after that except for some muffled screams, so here is the story from Joshes view…
From Josh’s View
After I got through the hole, I had a few scraps while coming out. The circle was filled with water except for the very middle which had a gleaming crystal sword. Guarding it was a giant monower; I guess that is why the sign had the name singular.
I lunged at the massive monower, two daggers above my head, slashing down at its face. When daggers meet the monower, the dagger just smashed into a million pieces.
Then I thought that the Monower was invincible. Then it hit me the Monower’s only weakness might be the… SLASH! I barely dodged the snap of the Monower.
I swam as quickly as I could to the shining sword. SNAP! This time I went underneath the water to dodge the bite.
Swimming back up to retrieve the sword, I grabbed the sword, turning around just in time to see the Monower quickly creeping towards me mouth open wide. I held the crystal sword in front of me ready for me to be dinner for this giant Monower. When the Monower had just about had me, I sliced my crystal sword right down onto the Monower right as the Monower touched the crystal sword, the Monower disappeared and replacing it gleamed a dagger covered with diamonds. On the side showed Tone-bonian writing. I decided that I would ask Leafeye what it meant once I got out.
From Jay’s View
After about thirty minutes Josh came out through the small hole holding a gleaming sword.
“Yippee! We got our first part to the crystal armor!” Everyone cheered for Josh, “We finished our first leg of our journey!”
“Don’t cheer to much. This is only one out of five parts of the crystal armor.” I inquired.
“Ok.” Everyone moaned.
We trudged on to our next destination, the Mountains of Gore. It was about 250 miles so we have to try to find some kind of device or vehicle that could take us to the Mountains of Gore faster. So instead of going straight to the Mountains of Gore we set off to Kasetex.
We had traveled about a mile or so when we came across a
small river rapid. We decided that it would be ok to go down the rapids (and we also thought that it would be like one of those fun rapid rides in most big amusement parks).
We started down the small rapids ending up thinking that we had made a bad choice about going down these rapids. We were bumping the sides of rocks and scraping other pieces of wood from other boats that had sunk. While I was trying to keep my balance I heard a yelp of “HELP!!!”
I looked over the side of the boat and saw Sam barely clinging to the edge of the boat. I ran over to him and pulled him as hard as I could.
But it was no use, he just got pulled further away with current and rocks. Finally I could not hold on any longer, fingers slipped from his and he was left in the current alone. I could see his body back behind us crashing against rocks and scraping the bottom of the river.
After we got out of the rapids we found some vines and tied our boat to a tree. We all got off the boat and all grieved for Sam, our fellow member. We decided the after that we would not take any more chances for the sake of everyone’s life.
We started back to the boat to move on. When we got back to the boat we found nothing but a small bit of vine tied to a tree. “ Oh no! Our boat has floated away.” Sean remarked.
All of us freaked out because that would mean that we could not row a boat instead we have to walk. Everyone was talking to each other saying that we would never make it to Kasetex in time before we ran out of supplies (just to let you know we each had a sword a two daggers to help us hunt but they were disappearing for no apparent reason. We found out that it was because of a spell that the wizard had set on us.)
We started walking through the open air. There were a few trees in sight and there were also rabbits scampering around. We decided when we would take a rest we would try our aim with our daggers (right now we were down to twenty daggers).
After about two hours I would guess that we would have covered about thirteen to fourteen kilometers, we stopped under a grove of trees. We rested and made a fire by rubbing two rocks together and we feed the fire branches from the trees around us. I almost forgot, it was almost eight-o'clock when we had sat down under the grove of trees.
For our makeshift dinner, we had apples that were growing on the trees, rabbits that we had cooked over the fire, and blueberries that we had found on a bush in the grove.
After we were full we laid down on the grass to go to sleep. I could not get to sleep because I was thinking about my mom and dad. I bet they were really worried about me. When I left I did not think that I would be gone for more than a day. I should not have left without telling them where I was going or at least leave a note. I pondered about that till about midnight until I could not even keep my eyes open.
The next morning we all woke up quickly had some berries and were quickly on our way. We only had about ten kilometers until we got to Kasetex. We practically ran when we saw a sign that interpreted five kilometers to Kasetex. We made it there in about one hour but it did not seem right. We were standing panting in a deserted village sort of place.
Billy was the first one two figure it out because he had seen a small door a crack open that had some light. We all stepped inside finded out that there were stairs leading to the light. We slowly creeped down the stairs, each step making a creak as we went. About halfway down the stairwell we heard lots of voices.
Once we had got to the bottom we found out that the entire city was underneath the ground. We inferred that the different rooms were different houses along the underground road.
We walked along the road trying to find a store that sells vehicles. We finally found one at the end of one of the roads on the corner.
We strolled in looking at all the vehicles when the shop owner runs at us yelling no humans allowed in this shop! No humans allowed in this town! Shoo! Be gone! Leave us!
We ran out of the shop and out of the town. We ran all the way to the front of the above ground village.
This is the back page.
A wonderful adventure in a land of skeletons
Jay finds a little device that can take people to Tone-bonia and starts to and finds out that it belongs to Tommy a faithful and trustworthy friend. They take an adventure to Tone-bonia and find two boys named Leafeye, a very kind but courageous friend and Josh, a shy but brave boy.
They lose the transportation device and it ends up in Lord Bones’ hands. They all encounter difficulties like meeting 333 skeletons and killing a skeleton general while trying to get the priceless, valuable Tone-Bonian transportation device from Lord Bones, the king of Tone-bonia. Finding out that there is no way to beat the mighty Lord Bones, they set out on an adventure to find the magical crystal armor to help defeat the mighty Lord.
